The Prospect Land Trust in Prospect, CT, conserves a total of 143 acres. This includes various parcels of land that are preserved for their scenic, natural, and historical value as well as parcels that offer hiking trails, providing educational and recreational benefits for the community. Following are the properties with trails and those without trails.
Kathan Woods - Public Trail Access
Kathan Woods nature preserve and hiking trails spans 82.1 acres, consisting of two parcels of donated land generously donated by Boardman (Barney) W. Kathan. The trailhead begins at Boardman Drive cul-de-sac, includes the “Yellow Old Log Road” trail connecting to the “Blue Trail” loop.
It is a serene series of connected 3.3 mile wooded trails winding through a dense forest, meandering up and down gentle hills with historic stone walls & old logging roads, offering a moderate challenge for hikers. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed and no wheeled vehicles are permitted. The terrain is varied, with sections of rocky ground that require careful footing, adding an element of adventure to your hike. This trail is perfect for those seeking a bit of a workout while enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors.

College Farms - Public Trail Access
College Farms trailhead is at the end of Yale Farms Lane where the 5.43-acre trail offers a unique and slightly challenging hike through a mature forest. The “Orange” blazed loop trail, approximately 8/10ths of a mile long, winds through varied landforms and vegetation, including amazing valley views and rare Vernal pools that support threatened or endangered species. Hikers are advised to wear sturdy footwear with good traction, as the trail can be steep at times. This serene trail provides a protected open space in the middle of a residential neighborhood, inviting nature enthusiasts to explore its natural beauty. No wheeled vehicles or pets are allowed.

Summit Heights - Public Trail Access
Summit Heights trailhead, located at 109 Rosemary Road, begins this 3.65-acre trail offering an easy walking experience along an “Orange” blazed loop trail. The trail winds through natural woodlands and wetland areas, featuring stepping stone paths and sitting areas with benches, making it ideal for beginners of all ages. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed and wheeled vehicles are prohibited.

Nettleton Property -
Conservation Easement - Public Trail Access
Nestled at 76 Mountain Road, with public access parking is available from the Mt. Sanford State Forest location off Route 42 on the Prospect/Cheshire line, the property spans 4.78 acres and offers a serene escape into nature. The well-marked Quinnipiac “Blue Trail” traverses this parcel, entering and exiting on the east side. The parcel is bordered by the Naugatuck State Forest to the south, the Cheshire Land Trust to the east, and the South Central Regional Water Authority to the west. The property features mature woodland set in a scenic ravine, providing a peaceful and picturesque hiking experience. No dogs or wheeled vehicles are permitted.

Royal Crest Drive
Nestled at 89 Royal Crest Drive, this bountiful 8.90-acre open space stands as a testament to nature's untouched beauty. Once gifted by Mark Guastaferri, it now serves as a guardian of vital water resources that flow into the Ten Mile River and a sanctuary for native wildlife within its lush forested wetlands. Though parking and trails are currently absent, the intrinsic value of this land lies in its unwavering protection of the environment. Raudis Farm
Located on Clark Hill Road, this 6.50-acre parcel of open space is a hidden gem waiting to be cherished. Gifted by Florence Bakutis in 2000, it encompasses diverse habitats, including mixed hardwood forests, wetlands, and seasonal pools. Nestled within a residential neighborhood, this sanctuary safeguards vital riparian habitats and wetland areas, including a nearby pond. Although public access and parking are not available, imagine this tranquil haven as a cornerstone of conservation, preserving the natural beauty and ecological balance for generations to come.

Luke Street Wetlands
Situated on Luke Street, this expansive 31.62-acre open space is a vital sanctuary for environmental conservation. Generously donated by Capanna - Cocchiola, this land is crucial for the protection of water resources that flow into the Ten Mile River and serves as a haven for the native forested wetlands. There is no public access or parking, yet this serene landscape holds immense ecological value as it stands as a quiet guardian of nature's delicate balance. Envision this space as a cornerstone of conservation, safeguarding the natural beauty and biodiversity for future generations to cherish.
